Blog Relaunch & Why I Might Give Up On My Business

In late 2017 I decided to launch 'Make Your Mark' my side hustle which offers Social Media consultancy for brands as well as Coaching for Bloggers. I had been researching what successful coaches looked like, how they managed themselves and their websites and came to the conclusion that I needed to migrate to Squarespace in order to create a more professional website, I also decided that I was only going to blog about social media and blogging tips. Useful content to create leads, that sort of stuff.

All was going really well at first, I was getting loads of leads and business was booming. It hasn't slowed down actually but I decided that I was going to take a step back a couple of weeks ago. I started to become really overwhelmed with everything.

  1. Am I really cut out for this business stuff?
  2. Do I want to leave my 9-5 eventually?
  3. Am I able to invest money and time into this business right now?

To be honest, I still don't know, I know I have the skills to offer and have a level of business knowledge to go quite far but when it comes to finances. I die. every time. I am also surrounded by loads of amazing humans who are really business savvy and every time I listen to them I just die inside a little bit and start doubting myself.

I was going to give up, I really was. I tweeted about it and so you may have seen that on the timeline somewhere but shortly after my Twitter meltdown my husband sent me a message saying.

"Don't give up on your dreams"

He was right, and my friends Bonita & Ade also put it into perspective for me.

Why do I want to do this?

I'm still not sure and so I am still working with my current clients but taking the time out to really understand my why and put the passion back in to Make Your Mark.

I did know something though.

When you have a business and you are generating leads your content creation process is very limited. I started blogging as a creative outlet and not having that outlet made me feel crap. Instagram just isn't the same you know?

So, here I am. If you are working on something right now and it feels a bit overwhelming I just want to let you know that you need to keep going. It is going to be hard but that is the only way you are going to learn and have lessons to give others in the future.

Remember your why. Why you started. Why you are passionate about what you are doing. Why you are perfect for this.

It is hard to not doubt yourself but it is all a part of the process.

Keep striving.
