3 Major Lessons I have Learned In The Last Six Months

16:48

We are half way through the year! I always think it is quite important to just pause at certain times and reflect on how you have spent your time. I feel like I need to do this every day but life get's in the way so sometimes I will do it every week and think about what I have achieved and more importantly what are some of the lessons I  have learnt?

I did one of these posts at the end of last year because after launching my business I had a lot of time to reflect and share some of the lessons I have learned with you guys who might be going through the same thing or may be able to take away something.

The first half of the year for me has been amazing, I got married to my best friend, I got a promotion at work, myself and the rest of the Adzvice team have put on some great events, I have worked with Boohoo this year. It has just been a great start and I am really grateful.

I have also learned so many lessons but today I am going to share three with you, mainly because I don't want to bombard you with information and also because these lessons meant the most to me.

One. Closed mouths don't get fed

You really MUST ask for what you want, work for it, network, speak to the right people. It is often said 'It's not what you know, it's who you know'. Someone in broadcasting told me that a long time ago and it has never left me.

I worked towards my promotion most of last year, I knew what I wanted and so when the opportunity came up I opened my mouth and asked for it. If I didn't I wouldn't have got it.

Whatever it is you want to achieve you really got to find the right people and ask for it.

Two. Don't feel pressured by social media,

Social media is a place where everyone puts their best foot forward, we are constantly seeing people achieving so many things and at times it is hard to think, why am I not there yet. I think one of the most important lessons I have learned this year is to stay in my lane. Comparing yourself to people will only make you feel really shit about yourself and so, simply just don't do it anymore.

You can not compare your beginning to someone's middle or end. You have no idea what they had to go through to get to where they are now and so keep grinding.

Just don't feel pressured in any capacity by social media. It's fake and you are not.

Three. Keep investing in yourself.

Something I learned this year is that as millennials we have the advantage to fulfil our 9-5's and have other sources of income from 'side hustles'. The world is changing so quickly with advancements in technology threatening to take many of our jobs it is important that we keep investing in ourselves.

Do this by taking classes online, learning a new language, going to events. All of these things can be done for free or at a small cost and in the long run, you will have so much more opportunity and advantage over everyone else if you can adapt in the workplace.

You can be an expert in one thing but isn't it better to be great at a load of different things?

These are just some of my key learnings as we come to the halfway point of the year.
Have you taken the time to reflect on what you have learned so far?
